The subway, whose construction has commenced in year
1992, has started operating between Taksim and Levent on the 16th of September
2000. Shopping centers are located in Gayrettepe and Levent stations that have
the comfort that suits to Istanbul and her people.
Besides this, moving
walking paths have been constructed in Taksim station that give the passengers a
chance to travel along the long Tünels without making any effort to walk. Subway
of Istanbul is one of the safest places in case of an earthquake occurrence both
with its construction technique and with the region it is located in. The subway
is resistant to an earthquake having and intensity of 9; and it has been
constructed on the region with the most stable ground mechanics.
